Wire tape of home phone. watergate?

im doing a speech in my speech cl in college and i am on the topic of richard nixon for my speeches. i have a speech do in a couple weeks and im doing it on. how to wire tape a phone (Like Watergate). we need atleast three steps in our speech but no more then five. does any one know the correct steps to doing this like they did in 1972.
