What exactly do Combat Recue Officer's of the Air Force do?

I was thinking about becoming a PJ after I attended the Air Force Academy or ROTC program somewhere, but found out that officer's can't apply. So I came across the CRO. What exactly are their job requirements and what exactly is their mission? Also, what is the washout rate?
